A field guide
to your sky.
No need to learn a new language before you begin. Start with one idea, then try it for yourself.
Your first five minutesA birth chart is a map.
You get to ask
the questions.
It records where the Sun, Moon and planets were for a date, time and place. Astrology adds a language of symbols to that map. The positions are calculated; their personal meaning is open to interpretation.
Make your first chart ↗ - 01
Start with the Sun
The sign most people already know. In astrology, it is a starting point for exploring identity and expression.
- 02
Meet the Moon
A symbol used to explore feeling and instinct. Its position moves quickly, so the birth time can matter.
- 03
Add the Rising sign
The zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at birth. It needs a reliable time and place; it cannot be guessed from the date.
Take one idea at a time
A clearer way in.
01 / THE DETAILS“I don’t know my birth time.”
You can still begin. Some planetary positions can be explored from the date, but the Ascendant and houses need a time. A chart with an unknown time should say what is uncertain, rather than invent a precise answer.

02 / THE HORIZONWhat makes a Rising sign?
As Earth turns, different parts of the zodiac rise in the east. Your Ascendant is that horizon point at the moment of birth. Astrologers use it to frame the chart, which is why a clock time and a location matter.

03 / THE MOONPhase and sign are different things.
The Moon’s phase describes how much of its sunlit side we see from Earth. Its zodiac sign describes its position along the zodiac. One is a familiar shape in the sky; the other is a coordinate used in astrology.

04 / THE MOVEMENTRetrograde is a change in perspective.
A planet can appear to move backwards against the distant stars as we watch from a moving Earth. It has not reversed its orbit. Astrological readings attach symbolic meaning to that apparent motion.

05 / THE PRESENTYour chart stays. The sky moves.
A transit compares a planet’s current position with a position in your birth chart. The angle between them can be calculated. An interpretation is a prompt to reflect, rather than a promise that something must happen.

06 / TWO PEOPLEA comparison starts a conversation.
Synastry puts two charts alongside each other. Similarities and differences can offer questions to discuss; a chart cannot decide whether a relationship will work. Explore someone else’s personal birth details only with their permission.
