Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 August 2026
AstroPrecise is built privacy-first. Birth date, birth time and chart calculations stay in your browser. Place search sends only the place text to Open-Meteo so your browser can resolve coordinates and timezone. If you use a contact or availability form, the contact details you deliberately submit leave the device; no chart is attached. Gumroad receives the payment email and licence for the £7 Your Eclipse Edition only; birth date, birth time and chart are never sent to Gumroad. This policy explains those limited data flows and the rights you have under the UK GDPR.
Who we are
The data controller is Jonathan Davenport, trading as AstroPrecise (a sole trader based in the United Kingdom). Gumroad is seller-of-record for the £7 Your Eclipse Edition only. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of your rights, email contact@astroprecise.app.
What we collect
Birth details you type. Birth date, birth time, selected coordinates and the resulting chart are calculated in your browser and may be saved in this browser’s localStorage. When you search for a place, the place text is sent to Open-Meteo; your name, birth date and birth time are not included in that lookup. AstroPrecise does not create or accept chart links containing birth details: shared links are clean, while generated images and summaries contain only the result you choose to share. Gumroad receives the payment email and licence for the £7 eclipse edition only; birth date, birth time and chart are never sent with an order.
Contact form. If you write to us through the contact form, your name, email address, and message are delivered to us via our form processor, Formspree. We use them only to reply.
Purchases. Gumroad receives the payment email and licence for the £7 Your Eclipse Edition only. Birth date, birth time and chart never leave the device for that purchase. Unlock is on-device via a pasted licence key. Other products are not sold yet.
Email signups. If you join an availability or update list, your browser sends the
email address you enter and a topic tag to
list.astroprecise.app. Standard security logs may also contain an IP address, time and page
referrer. No birth date, birth time, saved chart or reading content is included.
Usage analytics — we run none. This site loads no analytics of any kind: no Google Analytics, no Umami, no Plausible, no tag manager, no tracking pixels, and no advertising or cross-site tracking scripts. We do not measure your visit, and we set no analytics or advertising cookies — which is why you have never seen a cookie banner here. The only records of your visit are the ordinary server and CDN logs described under “Security & hosting” below.
Lawful bases
- Contract — responding to a service request or fulfilling a Gumroad order for the £7 eclipse edition under the terms shown at that checkout.
- Consent — marketing and notification emails. You give it when you subscribe, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests — security and keeping the service reliable (for example the server and CDN logs our host keeps to serve and protect the site). These uses are minimal and proportionate, and you may object to them (see “Your rights”).
What stays on your device
localStorage on your device can hold saved charts, preferences and feature state needed to reopen the experience you chose. We hold no copy of that browser storage. Clearing AstroPrecise site data in your browser removes it from that device.
Third parties & international transfers
The current site relies on the following services:
- Formspree (US) — the contact form. Your name, email address and message.
- Gumroad — seller-of-record for the £7 Your Eclipse Edition. Payment email and licence only; birth date, birth time and chart are never sent.
- GitHub (US) — hosting. The ordinary server log of your request.
- Cloudflare (US/global) — content delivery and security in front of that host,
and the availability-list endpoint at
list.astroprecise.app. - Open-Meteo — place-name geocoding and, on observing pages, weather data for the location you request.
That is the whole list. No analytics, advertising or data-broker company receives anything from this site, because we do not use any. Some of these processors operate outside the UK; where they do, transfers are safeguarded by the UK–US data bridge, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or standard contractual clauses, as applicable.
Features that talk to other services
To provide certain features, your browser contacts third-party services directly. For the items below we do not receive your birth chart or reading content:
- Place search — when you type a birth city, the place text is sent to the Open-Meteo geocoding service to look up coordinates and timezone. Your name, birth date, and birth time are not included.
- Sky-condition forecasts — our observing forecasts use the Open-Meteo weather API, which receives the location you ask about and standard request headers — never your birth data.
- Live sky data — the Instrument page fetches public space-weather readings from NOAA SWPC and, for the “quantum draw”, a random number from the ANU Quantum RNG. These requests carry no personal information.
- Fonts — none, on any page. Every typeface on this site is served from this site. Until 9 August 2026 eight secondary pages still fetched theirs from Google Fonts, which meant Google saw a request from your browser on those pages; they were cut over to the font files already bundled here, and no page loads type from anywhere else.
How long we keep things
- Contact enquiries — 12 months, then deleted.
- Marketing list — your email address, tag and the page you signed up from, until you unsubscribe.
- Security logs and rate limits — for the period needed to protect the service and investigate abuse; these records are not joined to saved chart data.
- localStorage — until you clear your browser data; we hold no copy.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and you may withdraw consent at any time (which does not affect processing already carried out). Email contact@astroprecise.app and we will respond within one month. Chart and preference data on your own device is under your direct control — clear site data in your browser to erase it. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Security & hosting
The site is served by GitHub Pages behind Cloudflare; like any web host and content-delivery network, they see IP addresses and standard request headers in order to serve and protect the site. We take proportionate technical and organisational measures to protect the data we do hold, and we never sell personal data.
Children
AstroPrecise is intended for adults. Purchases are restricted to over-18s, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
